Kochi, Thursday, 20 November 2008: The customs today managed to seized 90 tonnes of illegal rice export from Kochi port for the second time in a week.
On 19th the customs official’s confiscated 30,000 tonnes of illegal rice export to Dubai via Kochi port. The seizure comes in the wake of Government’s ban on non-basmati rice exports. The Government had banned exports of non-basmati rice and abolished the import duties on crude edible oils on March 31 as part of measures to control inflation. Authorities have arrested one person in connection with the incident.
