Thiruvananthapuram, Saturday, August 23, 2008: The debt-ridden farmers of Wayanad would get something to rejoice this Onam, after the talks held between Chief Minister VS Achuthanadan and Debt Relief Commission it has been decided by the Government to start the loan waiver process from September 2nd onwards.
The upland Wayanad had been witness to a large number of farmers’ suicides over the years.

Any effort to mitigate the sufferings of farmersis quite welcome. But the tragic part of the whole exercise is that nothing tangible reaches the really suffering farmers in the end. Let’s hope the bitter experience will not be repeated this time.
