Talks between Pranab and Condoleezza Rice begin at Hyderabad House

New Delhi, Saturday 04 Oct 2008: US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is scheduled to arrive in New Delhi on Saturday; but, sources have told that the nuclear deal may not be signed due to apparent procedural hitches.

US President George W Bush is yet to sign the bill into law.

The Indian government is keenly waiting for his signing statement since they expect it to address some concerns they have with the language of the bill.

It has been widely expected that Rice and Minister for External Affairs Pranab Mukherjee would sign the agreement on Saturday. Sources have said that if it doesn’t happen on Saturday, suspect it may be signed next week in Washington.

The United States of America has rejected an Indian demand made just hours before US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice lands in Delhi for a written assurance from President George W Bush to strengthen fuel supplies.

The US House of Representatives and the Senate approved the nuclear deal earlier this week.
